What are insulated plasterboards

This forms a product designed to keep the heat in and save money on your energy bill. This also provides great thermal performance which creates a comfortable living or working space and does not take up too much of the wall depth therefore, it does not take too much space out of the room.

It is also a great product to use when renovating or upgrading existing Insulated Plasterboards and it will also prevent and stop condensation/ damp on external walls. This is done by adding a layer of insulation which raises the surface temperature of the wall. This will mean that it will no longer acts as a dew point for warm moist air. What is an Insulated Plasterboard?

Plasterboards also known as Drywall consists of materials Gyproc or Gypsum packed into heavy duty paper which can be used to create external or internal walls of home or commercial buildings. Insulation boards consist of a high-performance, rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation board specifically designed to address thermal bridging and reduce localized heat losses. Insulated Plasterboard combines these two building materials. It is made using a sheet of standard plasterboard and a sheet of insulation material which has been glued together to form a single sheet. Insulated Plasterboard is 2-in-1 product and can be cut to any size making installation quick and easy.

Basic Insulated Plasterboard:

Basic Insulated Plasterboard is typically made up of 9.5mm gypsum board which is backed with a sheet of expanded polystyrene. The thickness of the Insulation sheet usually varies between 12mm and 30mm. The thickness depends on the insulation level needed. This product can be used to line the walls of internal rooms.

Vapour-Control Insulated Plasterboard

Vapour- Control Insulated Plasterboard is typically made using a slightly thicker gypsum board (around 13mm), which is backed with high performance polyisocyanurate foam. One or two layers of vapour control material are also attached to this product. This product can be useful for lining attic rooms and window reveals.

Moisture Resistant Insulated Plasterboard:

Moisture Resistant Insulated Plasterboard is typically a higher performance insulated plasterboard which is typically made using a gypsum board (12-13mm) which is backed with rigid polyisocyanurate foam as well as two vapour barriers. This product is designed for use in partitions and wall lining where thermal performance and high moisture resistance is needed.

High-performance Insulated Plasterboard:

High-performance insulated plasterboard is typically formed of a sheet of gypsum board (9-13mm) which is backed with high-density phenolic foam. It usually includes at least one vapour-control layer. This product is designed to be used in new builds and refurbishment for walls and ceilings where a higher level of thermal insulation is needed.

Insulated Plasterboard is used for loft conversions, insulated external walls, and internal partitioning at home. It is available in a range of materials, sizes and thicknesses to ensure the right product is available to suit your insulation needs. Sizes range from 25mm to 80mm thickness.

As mentioned above Insulated Plasterboard is usually used for internal walls which are commonly made of brick. Insulated plasterboard is most helpful when both a type of insulation and dry lining is needed. You can therefore get both jobs and requirements met in one.

It can be fixed with plasterboard nails, screws or even adhesive, making it an easier option for some DIY tasks.

Prices can vary based on the type of Insulated Plasterboard required to complete your project. Some brands that offer a premium product have a higher price however standard products that still offer great quality products can be found at cheaper rates and can be found on our website.

Why Do I Need Insulated Plasterboard?

Using Insulated Plasterboard is recommended if you have a property from or before 1920 as the chances of the property having Cavity Walls are slim. Using Insulated Plasterboard can be expensive and in some cases labour prices can go up due to lifting a heavier material however it would be a mistake trying to avoid costs when it comes to insulating your home as it can bring the property up to modern spec.

It can also be used if you find the property or even individual rooms are very cold or if the walls are single skim.

How To Cut Insulated Plasterboard?

The layer glued onto the back of the plasterboard can make cutting the sheet of Insulated Plasterboard a little more difficult than regular Plasterboards.

The best way to cut this product is to measure and mark (draw on a dotted line) exactly where you would need to cut the Insulated Plasterboard. Use a spirit level to achieve straight lines. Before you go on to fit the product ensure everything is accurate and cut right and then remove all protective layers.

Then go on to use a very sharp knife or hand saw which will cut through the insulation material including all layers.

Wear safety goggles when cutting Insulated Plasterboard as insulation fibres can be produced when cutting this product.
