What are the different types of PIR celotex insulation boards?

Celotex PIR boards are split into three product codes. These are TB4000, GA4000 and XR4000. All of these PIR boards are square edged with foil facing. Each board has a coverage of 2.88m² and achieves the same level of thermal conductivity (0.022 W/mk). The biggest difference between the product codes is the thickness of the boards itself. TB4000 comes in thicknesses of 25mm, 30mm and 40mm. GA4000 comes in thicknesses of 50mm, 60mm, 70mm, 75mm, 80mm, 90mm and 100mm. XR4000 comes in thicknesses of 110mm, 120mm, 130mm, 140mm, 150mm, 200mm. Each Celotex PIR Board achieves the same level of Water Vapour Resistance, which is >150MNs/g – BS EN 12086: Method B. In addition to this, all Celotex PIR insulation boards achieve the same Spread Of Flame rating, which is Class 1 – BS 476-7. Full technical specifications of each Celotex PIR board can be found on the product pages.

How to cut Celotex PIR Boards

Celotex Insulation Boards are so popular due to how easy they can be cut and installed. When cutting insulation boards, we suggest you wear protective clothing as well as safety goggles or glasses. You can also wear a dust mask as in some cases cutting the board may expel dust. The first step you need to take before cutting any rigid foam board is measuring the board precisely to the dimensions you require. Once you have measured where you want to cut, we advise marking it with a permanent marker. Make sure you double check the marking to ensure that you are happy with your measurements. This is important as you don’t want to make a mistake and risk wasting a board.

Once you have made your markings, you should lay your Celotex Insulation Board onto a flat surface. Make sure this is a work table and not a decorative table as you could risk scratching the surface below. To secure your Celotex insulation board, you can clamp it to the surface.

For a nice clean cut, you can use a utility knife with a segmented blade. When using a segmented blade, use the blade to score the insulation as close as possible to the board. You then should make a second cut to finish the incision. It is worth noting you can also use a table saw if you want a precise cut. When using a table saw, ensure safety precautions are in place to prevent a potential injury.

As long as you are happy with the cut of your board, your newly cut Celotex Board is now ready to be applied

How To Install Celotex PIR Insulation Boards

One of the reasons that Celotex PIR boards are so popular is that they can be used in a variety of applications. This includes pitched roofs, flat roofs, masonry walls, floors, timber framed & steel framed systems, and more. This is just one of the reasons why it is a global favourite PIR board. At Insulation Board we have provided a handy guide on how to install Celotex. This guide looks at several different application types and is clear and easy to understand. The installation type will vary depending on the application. Click the following link to read our Celotex PIR Board Installation Guide.

What are Celotex Insulation Boards Made From?

The TB4000, GA4000, and XR4000 Celotex insulation boards are made from polyisocyanurate. Polyisocyanurate is more commonly known as PIR. This is a thermoset plastic, which is produced in the form of foam. Celotex Insulation Boards also feature aluminum foil facings. The purpose of the foil facing is to improve the insulative properties of the board itself. When Celotex manufactures their PIR boards, they use a special lamination process to glue the low emissivity foil facing to the board. A blowing agent is also added to make the adhesive expand into foam. The finished product is then cut into boards. The thickness of these boards varies depending on the product code. Celotex insulation boards are available from 20mm up to 200mm.

Celotex U Value Calculator

The U Value is the measurement of how well a material performs as an insulator. To calculate the U Value, we need to know the type of insulation board being used as well as where it is being installed. This is because the U Value is dependent on where a product is used. On our website, you can find the R-Value of every Celotex Insulation Board. The R-value is the value that shows the resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-Value, the more insulating the product is. When calculating the U Value, we recommend that you use Saint Gobain’s very own U Value Calculator. This U Value Calculator can help assist you with your project.

Celotex is one of the most recognised brands of PIR rigid foam insulation boards. On our website, you can also find other popular PIR boards from brands such as Kingspan and Recticel. An advantage of Celotex is that it can achieve U Values with minimum thickness. It is also easy to cut and shape and is easily installed. In addition to this, Celotex Insulation Boards are CFC/HCFC free with zero ODP and low GWP. Insulation from Celotex can help the environment by creating buildings with better insulation properties.
