What are Celotex GA4000 boards made from?

Celotex GA4000 insulation boards are made from rigid polyisocyanurate. This is known as PIR in the industry. PIR is thermoset plastic, which is formed into a foam. A layer of aluminum foil is also glued onto the board. This low emissivity foil facing helps to improve the insulation properties of the GA4000. The finished product is then sliced into boards of various thicknesses.

GA4000 is popular as it can be cut and installed easily. For guidance on installing GA4000 insulation board – read our Celotex PIR Board Installation Guide.

The GA4000 is the most popular range of Celotex PIR boards. The Celotex GA4000 board has a thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/m.K, which can help to reduce the thickness of insulation needed to hit the target U-value.

Celotex GA4000 Applications

The GA4000 can be applied to a variety of applications. It is worth noting that Celotex GA4000 should not be used on external walls of buildings that are 18 metres or taller in height in England & Wales or 11 metres or taller in Scotland. This is due to recent changes in building regulations that have meant that only non-combustible or very limited combustible materials can be used in a building that tall. It can be considered for floor, wall and roof applications. A list of applications for the GA4000 can be found below:

  • Ground Floor – Concrete Slab
  • Ground Floor – Suspended Timber Joist
  • Ground Floor – Beam and Block
  • Ground Floor – Upgrading Existing Concrete Slab

How do you cut and install GA4000 boards?

GA4000 Insulation PIR boards can be cut by first measuring and marking the boards to size and cutting with a fine-toothed saw. They can also be cut by scoring one side of the board with a sharp blade, snapping the board over a hard edge, and scoring the other side of the board.
Protective gear such as gloves, masks, and goggles should be worn when cutting PIR boards to prevent irritation caused by the material fibres.
Please note this is a guide only. Always consult a building professional before insulating your domestic or non-domestic building. Installing the incorrect insulation materials or using an incorrect installation method can be a timely and costly mistake.
Partition stud wall Applications – Cut the boards to size if necessary. Measure the spaces between each stud to ensure each board fits each individual space as the cavity sizes may differ. Apply plasterboard horizontally to one side of the partition wall using the required fixings. Push the insulation boards to the back of each cavity. Ensure two boards joint together are tightly butted and foil tape is used to avoid thermal bridging. One the stud wall has been filled with insulation, apply plasterboard horizontally to the other side with the necessary fixings. Corner beads and Mesh tape can also be applied to the plasterboard to avoid damage when decorating.
