This means your delivery will be quick and efficient without being affected by delays and wait times for specific brands.
These 15mm TE moisture-resistant boards are designed to resist water and moisture penetration and enhance the strength of the building. These boards are also used for drylining purposes to provide a seamless finish to the walls and ceilings ready for finishing with plaster, paint, or tiles.
Unlike standard plasterboard, which is vulnerable to water damage, moisture-resistant plasterboard is specially engineered to repel moisture due to water-repellent additives within the core designed to withstand humid or damp conditions. These moisture-repellent properties help to prevent the growth and spread of mould and mildew, making this product perfect for areas prone to condensation and damp.
15mm Moisture Panels
The Tapered Edge moisture panel is often referred to as the ‘green plasterboard’ due to its distinctive green paper facing. The 15mm board is a popular choice within residential and commercial buildings, designed for areas prone to moisture or condensation including kitchens, bathrooms, and changing rooms. These panels are light and easy to cut using a sharp blade or fine-toothed saw. These boards can be fitted using plastering adhesives in a dot and dab method or secured with mechanical fixings depending on building regulations and project requirements.
The Benefits of 15mm Moisture Plasterboard Tapered Edge:
- Resistance: The 15mm moisture panel is manufactured with a water-resistant core
- Reliable: The board’s water-resistant core will make the moisture board less likely to absorb water, which will prevent the growth of mould or fungi
- Compatibility: The moisture panels are suitable for tiling, painting, plastering, and other decorative finishes, even in wet environments.
- Structure: Moisture boards will help to protect the structure of the building by slowing the effects of water damage
- Installation: Moisture boards can be installed on walls and ceilings in multiple buildings and application types
- Lifespan: These boards are long-lasting, and when installed according to the correct guidelines, they will last the entire lifespan of the building
The 15mm Tapered Edge Moisture Resistant boards, measuring 2400mm x 1200mm, cover a generous area of 2.88m². When deciding how many boards you will require, it is always a smart choice to plan for extra boards and have a few spares rather than run out. Some boards may need to be cut to size, and there can be some wastage. This is particularly common with moisture boards as they need to be altered for installation around plumbing, pipes, fixtures, and fittings.
15mm Moisture Resistant Plasterboard Application Types
The 15mm tapered edge moisture resistant plasterboards are versatile and can be applied to timber and steel frame systems in the ceiling or walls using mechanical fixings to secure the boards. The moisture boards can also be applied directly to solid walls using the dot and dab method. 15mm MR plasterboards can be used in a variety of applications including changing rooms, wet rooms, spas, saunas, and commercial kitchens and restrooms.
Here at Insulation Board, we would always advise consulting a professional before any construction works begin, due to the frequently changing building and construction rules and regulations. Be sure to consult a contractor or building professional prior to installing Moisture boards.
Moisture plasterboards are essential in multi-occupancy residential or commercial buildings or areas such as changing and washrooms. Plasterboards must meet British compliance standards and must be used in accordance with manufacturers guidelines.
When it comes to UK building regulations for using moisture plasterboards, there are key points to follow including ensuring the chosen boards align with the required standards for the walls, ceilings, or floors, depending on building type.
12.5mm TE Moisture Boards Vs 15mm TE Moisture Boards?
When it comes to comparing 12.5mm moisture boards and 15mm moisture boards, the key difference lies within the thickness, weight, strength, and application. Both MR board sizes are used in areas that have higher levels of humidity. The 12.5mm MR board is more commonly used within standard residential applications whereas the 15mm MR board is used in areas where more strength and sturdiness is required such as high traffic areas, commercial buildings, or in spaces where the board may have to endure extra weight from heavier structural systems.
On our website, we also sell 12.5mm moisture-resistant plasterboards.
What Thickness Plasterboard for Ceilings?
When working on a ceiling the boards that are lighter in weight are generally the more manageable option, such as 12.5mm plasterboards. Although when installing in a building where the structural systems are bigger and heavier, the 15mm plasterboard may be the better choice. The type of plasterboard you use will depend on where the board is being installed and whether a specialised board is required such a moisture resistant or fire protection.
Can You Paint Straight onto Moisture Resistant Plasterboard?
Moisture resistant plasterboard can be decorated and painted the same way you would on standard boards however it is highly recommended that the boards are primed and plastered prior to painting to achieve the longest lasting results, create a flawless finish, and avoid damage.
Are Tapered Edge 15mm Moisture Panels soundproof?
Moisture panels are not ideal for soundproofing as they are not designed to reduce noise transmissions within a home or workspace.
If you are looking to purchase and install soundproofing or acoustic plasterboards, we recommend exploring our acoustic plasterboards, also known as blue plasterboards, available in both thicknesses of 12.5mm and 15mm.
Does Moisture Resistant Plasterboard Stop Damp?
Moisture resistant plasterboards can help to reduce the risk of dampness but cannot prevent it completely. The additives in the board are designed to repel water instead of absorbing it and withstand high levels of humidity. Moisture boards are a great preventative when it comes to damp and mildew growth however there are many other factors that can cause and worsen damp and therefore moisture plasterboards alone cannot stop damp.
What side of moisture plasterboards should you plaster?
For all plasterboards, the coloured paper face of the board should face outwards and it is the coloured side of the board that is suitable for plastering and direct decoration. The reverse side should face toward the wall inwards and should not be plastered. For example, moisture plasterboards should be installed with the green paper facing, facing outward and the green side skimmed, plastered, or decorated.
