12.5mm Moisture-resistant Tapered Edge plasterboards, although manufactured by different brands, produce like-for-like products, due to the manufacturing process.
Our plasterboards are sold unbranded, meaning when you purchase moisture plasterboards online from Insulation Board, you will receive a board from any one of the brands we stock. This means your delivery will be quick and efficient without being affected by delays and wait times for specific brands.
These 12.5mm moisture-resistant boards are designed to resist water and moisture penetration and enhance the strength of the building. These boards are also used for drylining purposes to provide a seamless finish to the walls and ceilings ready for finishing with plaster, paint, or tiles.
Unlike standard plasterboard, which is vulnerable to water damage, moisture-resistant plasterboard is specially engineered to repel moisture due to water-repellent additives within the core designed to withstand humid or damp conditions. These moisture-repellent properties help to prevent the growth and spread of mould and mildew, making this product perfect for areas prone to condensation and damp.
12.5mm Moisture Panels
The moisture panel is often referred to as the ‘green plasterboard’ due to its distinctive green paper facing. The 12.5mm board is a popular choice within residential and commercial buildings, designed for areas prone to moisture or condensation including kitchens, bathrooms, and changing rooms. These panels are light and easily cut with a sharp blade or saw, making them quick to install. These boards can be fitted using plastering adhesives in a dot and dab method or secured with mechanical fixings depending on building regulations and project requirements.

- Compatibility: The moisture panels are suitable for tiling, painting, plastering, and other decorative finishes, even in wet environments
- Structure: Moisture boards will help to protect the structure of the building by slowing the effects of water damage
- Installation: Moisture boards can be installed within walls and ceilings in multiple buildings and application types
- Lifespan: These boards are long-lasting and, when installed to the correct guidelines, will last the entire lifespan of the building
The 12.5mm Tapered Edge Moisture Resistant boards, measuring 2400mm x 1200mm, cover a generous area of 2.88m². When deciding how many boards you will require, it is always a smart choice to plan for extra boards and have a few spares rather than run out. Some boards may need to be cut to size; therefore, there can be some wastage. This is particularly common with Moisture boards, as they will need to be altered for installation around plumbing, pipes, fixtures, and fittings.
12.5mm Moisture Panel Application Types
The 12.5mm moisture resistant plasterboards are versatile and can be applied to timber and steel frame systems in the ceiling or walls using mechanical fixings to secure the boards. The moisture boards can also be applied directly to solid walls using the dot and dab method. MR plasterboards can be used in a variety of applications including kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, wet rooms, and commercial applications such as spas and saunas.
Here at Insulation Board, we would always advise consulting a professional before any construction works begin, due to the frequently changing building and construction rules and regulations. Be sure to consult a contractor or building professional prior to installing Moisture boards.
Tapered Edge Moisture plasterboards are essential in multi-occupancy residential or commercial buildings or areas such as changing and washrooms. Plasterboards must meet British compliance standards and must be used in accordance with manufacturers guidelines
When it comes to UK building regulations for using moisture plasterboards, there are key points to follow including ensuring the chosen boards align with the required standards for the walls, ceilings, or floors, depending on building type.
Why 12.5mm TE Moisture Boards Over 15mm TE Moisture Boards?
The 12.5mm board is lighter and therefore easier to handle, particularly in spall spaces such as utility rooms and bathrooms and when installed in overhead applications like ceilings. 12.5mm boards are also cheaper than 15mm boards which is ideal for budget-conscious projects. The thinner board option will also make the most of the area which is particularly handy is smaller rooms where every mm of space is valued. We also sell 15mm moisture panels if you require them.
What does MR board mean?
MR Board refers to moisture-resistant gypsum board, also known as green board or moisture plasterboard. MR boards offer an enhanced resistance to moisture than standard boards.
Are 12.5mm Moisture-Resistant boards fire resistant?
In short, no. The only plasterboards that are fire resistant are fire rated plasterboards, recognised by their pink paper facings.
Are moisture resistant plasterboards worth it?
Absolutely, moisture resistant plasterboards are the solution for keeping dampness under control. Particularly in areas prone to high levels of moisture to avoid mould developing such as beneath shower tiles or behind sink spaces.
Can you tile directly onto a moisture board?
Yes, you can tile directly onto moisture boards once the board have been installed and allowed to dry. It is worth noting that you will have to be mindful of the weight of the tiles and confirm the maximum weight that the board can hold prior to tiling. A primer coat may also be required.
Can normal Plasterboards be used in a shower?
Many houses are fitted with standard plasterboards with tiles applied directly onto the board. If the water has not seeped through a gap in the tiles or the silicon around the bath area than the standard boards should remain intact. However, if water should get through, which is relatively common, the board can cause many issues within the buildings structure. Green boards or moisture-resistant boards should be the only option used in a shower.
