Unbranded 15mm fire-resistant boards are designed to prevent the spread of fire and enhance the safety of the building. These boards are also used for drylining purposes to provide a smooth and seamless finish to the walls and ceilings with a variety of finishing options available.
In modern construction, safety and reliability is key when it comes to building works, particularly when it comes to fire prevention. An essential material when it comes to protection is fire-rated plasterboards. The 15mm Fire Rated Plasterboards have an aerated gypsum core with glass fibre additives bonded between strong high-quality paper facings with tapered edges (TE) along each side of the board. Fibreglass is flexible, non-flammable, resistant to chemical and biological effects and has a relatively low density. The properties of fibreglass make it the perfect additive for fire-proofing products such as plasterboards.
Here at Insulation Board, we have a range of tapered edge plasterboard products available including Standard plasterboards, Moisture-resistant plasterboards, Soundproof Plasterboards, and Vapour Panels.
15mm Fire Panels
Fire Plasterboard is also known as pink plasterboard due to its pink paper face. The Fire Panel can be easily cut using a sharp knife or fine-toothed saw and installed using a dot and dab method, mechanical fixings, or the two combined. The 15mm board is versatile and light and can be applied to a varity of applications with ease, it is a standard size used by those with the commercial construction and building industry and even DIY beginners and experts.
The Benefits of 15mm Fire Panels Tapered Edge:
- Safety: Fire resistant panels will slow the spread of fire and help to meet building standards and regulations
- Versatility: Variety of installation options and be paired with a variety of different installation products
- Applications: Suitable for a variety of applications including walls, ceilings, partitions, within a variety of buildings
- Reliability: Made from high-quality long-lasting materials that provides a minimum of 30 minutes fire protection
- Practical: The thin boards utilise the space in the room, they are lightweight to manoeuvre and easy to cut and install
- Finishing: Multiple choices when it comes to finishing including plastering, skimming, and decorating
- Rating: Fire plasterboard rating has a minimum rating of A2-s1,d0.
The 15mm fire boards are 2400mm x 1200mm and covers 2.88m2. When deciding how many boards you will require, remember it is always better to have slightly too many than not enough. Some boards may need to be cut, therefore, there can be some wastage. Not having enough material when working on a project can delay construction times and in some cases be a costly error as other work cannot begin until the required materials arrive.
15mm Fire Plasterboard Application Types
The 15mm fire rated plasterboards can be installed within timber and steel frame applications within the walls and ceiling and require mechanical fixings such as drywall screws. Fire resistant plasterboard can be applied to walls, partitions, and ceilings within residential and commercial buildings including garages and work facilities.
The effectiveness of the fire wallboards is measured by the amount of time that it can withstand high temperatures before burning. Our fire boards will provide at least 30 minutes of fire protection. The time frame of fire protection will depend on the application method and whether other fire procedures have been put in place such as steel framing systems instead of timber and fire-resistant insulation materials such as glass fibre.
At Insulation Board we advise that you seek professional advice due to rules and regulations in the UK that are frequently changed and updated. Be sure to consult a building professional or contractor prior to using or installing fire boards.
When it comes to UK building regulations for using fire plasterboards, there are key points to follow including ensuring the chosen board aligns with necessary resistance for the walls, ceilings, or floors, depending on building type. Fire plasterboards are essential in multi-occupancy residential or commercial buildings or areas such as fire escape routes. Plasterboards must meet British compliance standards and must be used in accordance with manufacturers guidelines. Fire safety regulation can be found on the Gov website.
Why Would You Use 15mm Fire Boards Over 12.5mm Fire Boards?
Whilst both the 12.5mm fire rated plasterboard and the 15mm fire boards share the same fire rating, the 15mm fireboard offers a more superior level of fire protection due to its thicker and more robust nature.
The extra durability makes the 15mm fire plasterboards the perfect option for high-traffic areas requiring extra support including wall partitions and wall linings within rooms, garages, and corridors. Despite the thickness and heavy-duty nature of the board they remain easy to cut, handle, and install, combining strength and reliability to create a safer environment.
How thick is Plasterboard?
Fire-rated Plasterboards are available in thicknesses of 12.5mm and 15mm.
How do you know if plasterboard is fire rated?
Fire Rated plasterboards are generally spotted by their pink coloured paper facings. When purchasing fire plasterboard, they will be referred to as either, fire rated plasterboards, fire resistant plasterboards, Fire boards, pink plasterboards, Fireline, or Fireproof plasterboards.
How Long is Plasterboard Fire Resistant?
Standard plasterboards cannot be considered a fire-resistant plasterboard; however, fire rated plasterboards resist fire for a minimum of 30 minutes onwards depending on whether the surrounding materials are fire resistant such as insulation, stud wall systems, sealants and so forth.
Do fire-rated plasterboards have a Vapour Barrier?
Fire-rated plasterboards do not have a built-in vapour barrier, however, if you should require plasterboards with a vapour barrier, our vapour panels, also known as foil-backed plasterboards, can be found on our website.
Is 15mm Fire Plasterboard heavier than Regular Plasterboard?
Yes, fire panels are typically denser, and therefore heavier, due to their fire-resistant properties. The 15mm Fireline boards will have additional weight to the 12.5mm due to their thicker size.
