Description

12.5mm Vapour Panel Tapered Edge plasterboards are manufactured by multiple brands, however the manufacturing process ensures they are virtually identical in performance and quality, producing a like-for-like product. Our plasterboards are sold unbranded, meaning when you purchase Vapour Panels online from Insulation Board, you will receive a board from any one of the brands we stock. The plasterboards we stock include popular and reliable brands and products including British Gypsum Gyproc Wallboard Duplex, Knauf Vapour Panel, and Siniat Vapour Boards GTEC. This allows for quick and efficient delivery without the delays of sourcing specific brand requests.

Vapour wallboards are made with an aerated gypsum core bonded between premium Ivory paper liners on each side with a metallised polyester foil backing on one side of the board forming a vapour control membrane. 12.5mm Vapour panel boards are designed to prevent moisture from effecting the building. These Vapour boards are also perfect for achieving a seamless finish on the walls and ceilings ready for jointing, plastering, painting, and wallpapering. Vapour panel plasterboards are a crucial element in construction for protecting the internal walls, ceilings, and floors as well as the attic and roof from water vapour. By creating a barrier from water vapour, it will in prevent condensation from forming, reducing the risk of rot, damp, or mould growth.

12.5mm Vapour Panels

The vapour panel, often referred to as foil backed plasterboard due to its distinctive silver foil backing, is a popular choice within residential and commercial buildings. With a thickness of 12.5mm, it is designed to form a block between moisture and the buildings internal envelope. This 2-in-1 product combines a vapour control layer and a standard sheet of plasterboard. While offering the same properties as a standard plasterboard, it features an additional film backing.

The Benefits of 12.5mm Vapour Panel Tapered Edge

  • Water Resistance: Vapour panels limit water vapour penetrations, making them ideal for areas where moisture is a risk
  • Aesthetic Finish: Flawless smooth surface suitable for decorating to enhance interior design options
  • Advanced Board: A combination of plasterboard and vapour control, saving time and money on installation and material
  • Easy Install: Light in weight and simple to install using mechanical fixings, reducing time wasted on labor
  • Protection: Vapour plasterboards will protect the internal walls of the building from water damage
  • Recyclable: 12.5mm vapour boards are fully recyclable once the foil backing material has been removed
  • Versatility: For added performance, multiple layers of vapour boards can be used and fitted in a brick-bonded pattern

The 12.5mm Tapered Edge Foil Backed Plasterboards, measuring 2400mm x 1200mm cover an area of 2.88m2. The foil backed plasterboard can be applied to walls, partitions and ceilings that require an improved level of vapour performance to limit moisture transmission.

12.5mm Vapour Panel Application Types

12.5mm tapered edge vapour plasterboards are versatile and can be applied to timber and steel frame systems in the ceiling or walls using mechanical fixings to secure the boards. Vapour boards can be used in areas where it is essential to control condensation which is often in areas where the warm and cold elements of the walls and ceilings interact. The spaces where warm and cold areas are at risk of interacting includes loft conversions, garages, sheds, and external and internal walls.
These panels are light and easily cut using a sharp blade or a plasterboard saw and are quick to install. The vapour plasterboard should only be installed with mechanical fixings, due to the foil backing of the boards they are not suitable for fixing with adhesive in a dot and dab method.

Here at Insulation Board, we always recommend consulting a professional before any construction works begin, due to the frequently changing building and construction rules and regulations. Before installing your vapour panels, be sure to have a contractor or building professional review your plans. In the UK, vapour plasterboard must meet specific standards dependent on the building type and application – walls, ceilings, floors. Plasterboards must meet British compliance standards and must be used in accordance with manufacturers guidelines.

Why Would You Use 12.5mm Vapour Panels TE Over 15mm Vapour Panels TE?

12.5mm tapered-edge vapour panels are a standard choice for residential and commercial applications, providing adequate protection against vapour and moisture in areas where a thicker board is unnecessary. 15mm vapour panels are preferred in projects where additional strength and enhanced durability is required. 12.5mm vapour sheets offer sufficient, high-quality performance.

Please note, that we also sell 15mm vapour panels, if you require them.

Can Vapour Panels Plasterboard be used in a bathroom?

No is the simple answer. The vapour board is installed with the ivory paper facing outward and the foil backing facing the wall. Therefore, the high levels of moisture in the bathroom could damage the plasterboard as it is not protected from moisture risks from the internal side of the building. We also sell moisture plasterboards on our website.

What is the difference between moisture plasterboards and vapour panel plasterboards?

Moisture plasterboards are moisture resistant due the additives within the boards core that are water repellent and designed to withstand damp or humid conditions. Vapour plasterboards are a standard plasterboard bonded to a vapour barrier; therefore, the vapour boards core is not moisture or water resistant and will not stand in conditions with high levels of humidity. The vapour panels foil backing acts simply as a block between water and the board.

What are the disadvantages of foil-backed plasterboard?

Foil-backed plasterboard can be more costly than standard plasterboards. It should also be noted that vapour panels must be kept free from dust in order for them to work to their full capacity. The metallised foil backing should also be considered where electrical wiring systems are concerned in case of a wiring fault due to the foil being a natural conductor of electricity.
